Ballina 52-5 Buccaneers

Our fine U15 team are one game from doing double after today's victory over Buccaneers in the cup semi-final. With the league title already in the bag, the Moy boys were taking nothing for granted today and played with style and intensity from start to finish.

This semi-final followed the mighty win of our First XV on the same pitch and with all the excitement ringing around Heffernan Park, but once the whistle went they were focused on one thing only.
Early pressure in the first first minutes yielded a penalty ,which Harry West converted.
Four minutes later the home side clicked into it full stride when following some fierce tackling Ballina turned over the ball and quick hands saw the ball reach Sam Callinan and he was off like the wind, handing off despairing tackles touching down out wide. Harry converted for a 10-0 lead.
The visitors roared back but the Moy boys had the measure of the Midlanders and drove them back, round the fringes, especially with Sean Murphy and Jack Gawley and all the back row pressurising them across the paddock.
This tactic yielded two more tries for Sam Callinan with Harry adding the points for a 24-0 half time lead.
Ballina emerged for the second half with the words of half time ringing in their ears and the boys in green didn’t let up and Sam crossed again for a 31-0 lead.
A few minutes later Fiachna Barret was yellow carded close to the Buccaneers line which eased some of the pressure on the visitors but this just was like kicking a hornets nest.
Like men possessed the home side tore into it and Alex Hennigan barged over the line for a 38-0 advantage.
When the team was restored to its full complement Fiachna played like a boy on a mission but the visitors broke up field and after some sustained pressure scored a try of their own.
From the restart, Fiachna gathered the high ball and tore up field to touch down under the posts for a 45-5 lead.
The home side weren't finished and even with the bench emptied they continued to drive back all attacks and ran the ball from everywhere, applying pressure in the '22.
Ballina were awarded a penalty the ball was popped up to Harry Reagan who mesmerised Buccs with his footwork and ghosted through without a hand being laid on him to bring the curtain down on a 52-5 victory.
On to the final in two weeks!
This was a total team effort in attack and defence with the pack of Hedd Morgan, Darragh Walsh, Patrick Morrin, Sean Murphy, Jack Gawley, Alex Hennigan, Ciaran Boland, Fiachna Barrett and replacements Harry Reagan, Cormac Jackson, Alex Moran and Cian Gibbons (who made his debut today) all leaving everything on the pitch.
The backs of David Feeney, Harry West, Mark Barrett, Liam Golden, Sam Callinan, John Ginty, Seamus Mason and replacements Eoin Fox, Liam Connor and Thomas O’Boyle harried and tackled, ran and ran and broke the opposition down.
This was a great display. The wrecking ball keeps on rolling and Saturday was indeed Super!
