Clear for a year

Our U15s set a small record for themselves on Saturday afternoon when they ran out clear winners against Tuam on a soft pitch at St Muredachs.
They are now unbeaten for a calendar year in all competitions.
From the outset the home team attacked and drove the visitors back into their own half time and time again, yet it was 10 minutes before the visitors' line broke with Alex Hennigan crashing over the line to the left of the posts.
The try was converted by David Feeney for a 7-0 lead.
It was a difficult day for attractive rugby and more a day for close-in driving and this was the order of the day and so to underline the Moy boys' willingness to run at every available chance, they scored through the backs with Sam Callinan opening his account with one of his trademark drives down the wing, touching down under the posts.
Iarla Quinn converted for a 14-0 lead.
The home side now relaxed a bit and this allowed the visitors more into the game so the boys in green had to up their defence and tighten up their ruck and drive game, but buoyed up by their success in working their way up the field, Tuam went for the score but our boys were having none of it and on numerous occasions drove the Galway boys out. This determination was typified when Tuam were awarded a lineout 5 metres out from the Green try line Ballina won it at the back through Ciaran Boland. He turned and drove into the visitors pack; the rest of the pack piled in and as-one drove up field for a good twenty metres.
With Harry West coming on for David Feeney Ballina’s attack gained fresh legs and this paid dividend when Harry sped down the wing after a break by the centres and touched down wide on the right to leave it 19-0 at the break.
After the break the home side continued to play as they had finished the first, driving forward time and time with both Harry West and Sam Callinan crossing and soon the scoreboard read 33-0.
Following a transgression by Tuam, Ballina were awarded a penalty. The ball was popped up to the forwards; Hedd Morgan barreled his way into the visitors 22, passed to Alex Hennigan and he put the try line in his sights but stout defence by the Galway side held him up just short. He then delivered a first-class offload out the side door to good support from Liam Golden and the score was 38 – 0.
Management rang the changes from then on with all the bench being used, including the newest recruit Thomas O’Boyle who made his debut for the club.
These changes took time to bed in and with fatigue Tuam came more into the game scoring two and converting one to leave the final score 40 – 12.

The Moy boys may have the league final in mind now but they have one more league game to complete before then.
Some work needs to be done, but the coaches are pleased that the training over the Christmas break had the desired effect in this weekend's game
