first run out

The Ballina RFC U15s recorded a huge win against Sligo today and got the season off to an amazing start.
The rain lifted just in time for the start of the match and play was influenced by the conditions however this Ballina side are a team who love to run and they did exactly that.
The Moy boys did not have the comfort of a warm up match but straight from the kickoff they attacked, running the ball from deep in their own half with great support and inter passing.
Alex Hennigan crashed over wide on the left of the post and this was converted excellently by Harry West. From the restart, Sligo drove deep at the heart of Ballina’s defense, attacking time and time again and they were rewarded with a number of scums which Ballina disrupted well.
Then following a turnover, Ballina ran from deep and scored again, Ciaran Boland dotting down with Harry West adding the points.
Sligo again worked their way down field but the boys in green would not bend the knee and ran in three more tries before half time with Alex Hennigan, Sean Murphy and Fiachna Barrett all crossing the whitewash. All tries were converted by Harry West.
In the second half, following some changes in personnel, the boys in green stepped up a gear and played more of the game further up the pitch and were rewarded with seven more tries, two which were converted. Sam Callinan scored four of these tries with Fiachna Barrett, Harry West and Iarla Quinn all grabbing one apiece.
At the end, only one of the starting backline were on the pitch and half of the starting forwards. Management were very happy with the result and thrilled with the commitment in the tackle from all involved.
Management and players know that there is work to be done in rucking and passing out wide but the mentors are very happy with commitment shown by the squad in training and during the match.
