True spirit of rugby played out in the sunshine

Buccaneers 12: Ballina 33
On a lovely day for rugby Ballina U14's travelled to Athlone to play Buccaneers in their last game of this seasons league needing to win to finish in second place
From the outset it was evident that the home side was going to play a forward orentated game, a style that our team are not used to so with a two hour trip behind them it was not surprising that the home side settled quicker .Following a series of quick rucks and mauls Buccaneers drove for the line and scored a try and conversion.Their pride wounded the Moy boys rolled up their sleeves and set to the task. The forward exchanges were fierce no quater asked or given following a scrum won against the head by Darragh Walsh in their own 22 Ballina worked their way up the paddock quick ruck and the ball through the hands to Sam Callinan who took off from the half way down the right wing scoring in the corner, game on, conversion was missed.
Buccaneers undeterred stuck to their game plan, worked their way back up the pitch scoring from a drive close to the line, try ,conversion missed .12-5
Ballina adjusted their style of play, focousing the defense round the fringes ,following a trademark monster tackle from Alex Hennigan, Buccaneers spilled the ball a quick pick up, advantage played , through the hands of David Feeney, Iarla Quinn and Seamus Mason, to Sam Callinan scoring closer in try, converted by David Feeney.
12:12 half time.
Following the break the Ballina settled to the task willingly ,following a number of rucks which brought Ballina to Buccaneers 22m line, Fichna Barrett cross kicked to Ballina Winger, Seamus Mason, who uses soccer skills to dribble the ball over the try line but was tackled without the ball resulting in penalty try. David Feeney converted.12-19
Bucaneers knew the had to stop the rot so they drove up the park so Ballina had a period defending on their try line,Bucc's tried for the line but resolute defense kept them out ,scrum awarded ,the ball was won and centre Liam Golden kicked from behind his try line the ball bounced and with Sam Callinan racing onto it the home fullback panic's and fumbles Sam picked up expertly to score under the posts. Tadhg Staunton converts. The home side crumbles to their knees all fight gone out of them. 12-26
Kick off with Ballina now playing with real swagger quick ruck by Ciarn Boland Ball spun out to outhalf Iarla Quinn who cross kicked to Fiachna Barrett who caught it in full stride and crossed the line.Iarla converted with that the referee blew full time. All who travelled got game time and all aquitted themselves well.
Final Score 12:33
We then watched the Ireland game in Buccaneers clubhouse where they fed us with sandwiches, soup and Hotdogs at half time. This is the true spirit of Rugby to see both teams enjoying each other's company after a hard fought game. Thank you to Buccaneers.
