On a perfect day for rugby Ballina U14’S hosted Galwegians at the Muredach’s pitch on Sunday afternoon .From the kick off Ballina received the ball and worked through the phases and broke through the visitors defence with Harry West touching down left of the post this try was converted .From the kick off play continued and following some fierce rucking the home side powered up field and Alex Hennigan crashed over the line. Ten minutes in and Wegians settled into their rhythm and scored through their centre. The moy boys knew then they were in a game and settled to the task and Seamus Mason broke from deep after a spilled galwey ball picking from his boot straps and breaking the opposition cover to sprint 40 metres and score under the posts ,try was converted. The game settled down into the normal ebb and flow but Ballina held out the boys in blue and then worked their way up the field and were unlucky not to score just on half time.
The second half opened as the first ended with Ballina throwing the ball around and tackling like demons following a scrum Ballina ran a trademark play and Alex Hennigan crashed over for the score .Galwegians gathered themselves and set themselves a task which they accomplished when they crossed the Ballina whitewash .The game settled into the ebb and flow of rugby and the play loosened up both sides willing to run on any occasion, following some fine rucking by Ciaran Boland and slick handling of both back and forwards Sean Murphy crossed over to score. Galwegians fought back and their second row got the ball in the Ballina 22 and ran to the line brushing off all tackles on the way. Ballina knew that they had to put the game in the bag so from the kick off they applied pressure and from a ball that spilled backwards Daniel Boland picked up the ball looked up and from 15 metres out pumped his legs broke two tackles and the visitors hearts touching down between the posts .This was Daniels first try of the season . Fiachna Barrett added more pain soon after driving over after some sustained pressure. Management implemented some changes and Ballina still strived on and following some slick passing Harry West touched down .As more and more changes were implemented more holes were bound to appear and galwegians crossed again at the death. This was a great team effort and both coaches were very happy with the teams performance but know that to win the league loads of work will have to be put in but are thrilled to get to Christmas unbeaten.
