Ballina 1st XV travel to Athlone today to play Buccaneers RFC in round two of the Connacht Senior League.

Buccaneers were beaten by Sligo in round one last week and sit bottom of the league on nil points.

Ballina come into the game on the back of their excellent start against Corinthians last week.

Round two also sees Sligo taken on Galwegians in their opening game of the league.

Kick off in both fixtures is at 14:30

Interesting fact: During the 1993-1994 season Athlone Rugby Football Club and Ballinasloe Rugby Football Club tested the amalgamation waters by playing as a joint team in Division Three of the All-Ireland League under the cumbersome title of Athlone/Ballinasloe RFC. The following year the relationship was consolidated and formalised and the title Buccaneers R.F.C. came into being.
