St Mary's, Enniscrone and Gortnor Abbey strive for girls' glory

St Mary's, Enniscrone and Gortnor Abbey strive for girls' glory

Michael Gallagher28 Jan 2020 - 09:50

Friendly rivalry in our schools

An exciting week of Schools Rugby kicked off brilliantly on Monday when the girls from St Mary's, Ballina defeated Sacred Heart, Westport 30-17 in the Junior League.
This was a highly-impressive display and set up a mouthwatering clash with another of our schools, Enniscrone, on Wednesday in Ballina.
A third of our schools, Gortnor Abbey, are also competing very strongly in the pool, which gives us all great interest in the upcoming matches.
There is very little to choose between any of the teams in this group and every point will make a huge difference to qualification chances. At the moment, the complexities of qualification seem endless, but we'll try and throw some light on them here.
If St Mary's defeat Enniscrone and get a bonus-point, they will go top of the pool with 16 points. However, if Enniscrone win on Wednesday and then defeat Gortnor Abbey with bonus points from both games, they will top the pool.
Gortnor Abbey are also in with a chance of qualification and if they gain a bonus-point win over Enniscrone in their last game, they will have a great chance of going through. However, that hope rests on Enniscrone defeating St Mary's on Wednesday.
So, there's a huge amount to play for in the coming days.
We're excited to say, we have girls from our U14 and U16 squads playing with St Mary's, Enniscrone and Gortnor Abbey and there's great friendly rivalry between all.
Good luck to all involved.
