A sparkling display from our U-16 Boys in Clifden on Sunday sent them into the Connacht Plate final.
The talented home side came into the game on a winning streak and Ballina knew the task facing them on Monastery Field, but the Moysiders responded brilliantly.
Connemara/Oughterard got out of the blocks faster to score the first try of the encounter, but Ballina rallied well and went in at half time 19-5 in front.
Connemara/Oughterard started the second half like men possessed to pull it back to 15-19 but cool heads prevailed and the Moysiders replied with a try of their own.
The see-saw nature continued when a try for Connemara/Oughterard followed to leave the scores 22-26 to Ballina leading into the last eight minutes. Ballina were being tested to the limit and responded brilliantly. The boys in green finished the stronger with two more tries to seal a place in the final.
This was a fine whole-squad effort and the scores came at the end of some eye-catching play. Tommy Gallagher scored three tries, Alex Boland got across the whitewash twice and Killian Hanley also crossed for a fine try. Finn Roche kicked all six conversions.
Well done to everyone involved.
