Remembering Kieran Cawley - A special man

Michael Gallagher26 Feb - 14:05

Kieran Cawley taught us all that sport is to be enjoyed and treasured

SPORT has a wonderful way of building bridges, forging friendships and creating connections which last long after thoughts of winning or losing matches have faded into the background.
On Sunday, our senior squad played Creggs in an epic Connacht J1A League semi-final.
At the end of a thrilling encounter, Creggs emerged victorious and celebrated accordingly.
Afterwards, the victorious captain accepted the Kieran Cawley Memorial Cup from Kieran's son Caolan and wife Marcella.
The gleaming silver cup remembers a man who made a huge impact in the social and sporting history of both clubs. Kieran gave so much of himself to others. He brought light and joy to so many lives; he adored his family, loved sport and embraced positivity.
Sadly, Kieran contracted a rare form of cancer and despite a brave and gallant fight, he passed away in 2022.
Kieran's passing left a huge void in the lives of his loved ones and so many people, near and far, who were blessed to have spent time in his company.
He is remembered fondly on the sporting fields. Kieran played, supported and officiated in many sports including rugby, Gaelic football, soccer and anything that came across his path. He is remembered in both Ballina and Creggs as a powerful prop who played with his heart on his sleeve for both clubs during a life filled with memorable moments.
The Kieran Cawley cup was kindly donated by his wife Marcella and all those associated with Crossmolina Mini Rugby, of which Kieran was so proud and helped set up
Kieran's loved ones will always have a special place in Ballina and Creggs, and his memory will continue to inspire an unyielding love of sport and community.
