THERE are rare misshapen moments when the world stops turning and the every-day rhythm of life is knocked for six. Today was one of those days.
As news of the passing of Richard Loftus spread through our community we all became swathed in clinging sadness. People of all ages were stopped in their tracks; conversations were held in hushed tones and heads were bowed all along the Moy and in many corners of the planet.
A fine young man had passed from this life, and there was no rhyme, reason or understanding. Lots of words were spoken, but no sense was made. All we could do was pray that some grain of comfort could be found by those who deeply loved and cherished Richard.
At Ballina RFC a cloud of sadness drifted across our rugby-family and our President, Daragh Quinn put into words what all of us were feeling.
"Sadly, Richard Loftus, son of Marc and Deirdre (nee Duffy), brother of Harry, Chloe and Zara, a wonderful young member of our club, has passed away after battling illness very bravely.
"Richard's passing brings great sadness to his family, our club and our community. Richard and his family have been at the epicentre of everything in Ballina Rugby Club for all of his short life.
"The Loftus family are in the midst of our thoughts and prayers at this sad time."
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
Richard will repose at McGowan's Funeral Home on Friday, October 3rd from 5 to 7pm.
Funeral will arrive to St Muredach's Cathedral on Saturday afternoon for Requiem Mass at 1.30pm, followed by burial at Leigue Cemetery.
