Ballina Rugby Club's new £50,000 club and function rooms at Creggs Road, Ballina which will be officially opened in September, were licensed at the Circuit Court in Ballina yesterday.
A declaration that the club headquarters would be suitable for licensing was made in November, 1977 and the Court was told yesterday that the building work had been carried out in accordance with plans submitted at that time.
It was stated there are three other club premises in the Ballina Court area—Ballina Golf Club, the Moy Club and the Stephenite Club.
Sean Murphy, President of the Club, told the court that between £20,000 and £22,000 of the cost of between £50,000 and £55,000 had been raised by subscriptions. The balance was raised by loan from the Banks and it was hoped the I.R.F.U. would give a subsidy in the future.
He said the opening on September 3rd would be performed by the President of the I.R.F.U. and for the opening an international team would play a President's team, which would also include many international players.
It was stated that a number of recommendations made by the Health Inspector would be complied with.
