History was made in Dublin at the weekend when three of our own helped Connacht to win the U18 Inter-Pro Sevens title. Grainne Moran, Ailish Quinn and Emily Foley were part of the Connacht team who created history by winning the title for the first time in thrilling circumstances.
All provinces had two teams in the competition and Connacht 1 was co-captained by Grainne and Emily, while Ailish also played a pivotal role.
The competition was played over two weekends and the opening salvos on May 11th saw Connacht 1 defeat Munster 2, Ulster 1 and Leinster 2. That set them up nicely for last weekend's knock-out phase.
On Saturday, Connacht 1 defeated Ulster 2 in the quarter-final before getting the better of Leinster 1 in the semi-final. That set them up for a tilt at Leinster 2 in the final and when the dust settled it was the girls in green who were victorious.
The campaign reinforces the fact that Connacht produce top-class rugby players at this grade after the province famously won the Inter-Pro 15s earlier in the season.
