One of Adrian Bourke's first initiatives as President of Ballina RFC was to bestow the honour of Club Patron upon Gerry O'Donnell.
This was a hugely historic moment, as in the 95-year history of the club, patronage had only been awarded twice previously - to Ivan Heffernan and Sean Murphy.
Gerry, hugely deserving of the award is immersed in the very fabric of the club. He's the heartbeat of Ballina RFC and all of us are blessed to be in his presence.
After the President had announced the patronage, many lovely words were said about the man with the Ballina crest embedded over his heart. Michael Moylett summed up Gerry brilliantly when he spoke of his encouragement, support and said he truly was an inspiration to all.
Adrian, said it was an honour to name Gerry as a Club Patron given his immense contribution to the life of the club over the years and remarked on how Gerry is as central to the club today as he has ever been, looking after players and teams at all levels through Minis, Girls, Youth and senior sections.
The President said Gerry is known far and wide for his love of Ballina RFC and is held in the highest regard everywhere he goes.
