A first for the club

History was made at this week's AGM of BRFC when it was announced that the club will field a senior women's team in the 2019/20 season.
Women's Rugby Co-ordinator, Deirdre Whyte, told the gathering that Ballina had been the first club in Connacht to establish a Girls Rugby section nine years ago and now it was time to make the step up to the adult game.

"We have been steadily building through the underage grades and we now feel the time is right to make the step-up. We have great girls coming through and if we can get some of our original players back again we'll have a great base to work from. Many of the original team from nine years ago are back home again after college and traveling and we want them to become involved with the senior squad.

"We also want anyone who would like to get involved to come along and be part of a very exciting chapter in Mayo sport. We will have more details very shortly," Deirdre added.
