The 'Grassroots to Green Shirts' journey of our own Harry West continued on Tuesday when the young Ballina man helped Ireland to a 41-22 victory over Scotland in Treviso. The game was Ireland's final match in the Summer Series and saw the men in green run in tries from all angles.
Harry's progress from Mini Rugby, through every level at Heffernan Park and now onto the international stage is exceptional and brings great joy to all of here at HQ.
"We're very proud of Harry. He has played every level for the club since he came here as a Mini and his dedication, work-ethic and undoubted talent have bedded in a very solid foundation for further development on the provincial and international stages," club chairman, Alan Rowe stated today.
Harry came off the bench at centre against Scotland and contributed handsomely to Ireland's fine win.
Five first-half tries gave the young men in green a 29-14 lead at half time and they built steadily on that throughout the second half.
Scotland enjoyed some good periods too but there was no denying the Irish and they finished the series on a high under sunny skies.
It was great to see Harry on the pitch and the fact that he qualifies to play for the U20s again next season is an added bonus.
Congratulations.
