One of the greats has left us

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of one of our most esteemed club members Sean Calleary.
Sean and his family have been and will always be, an integral part of our club an there is a shroud of sadness over Heffernan Park today.
Sean was a former President of Ballina Rugby Football Club and the Connacht Branch and his name will forever echo around the Moy and the Corrib.

Seán was a native of Killala and always had a huge and enduring love of sport. He honed his rugby skills in Garbally College and University College Galway and was also well known in sporting circles as a prolific athlete, while excelling at rugby, hurling, football and soccer. Indeed, he had the honour of representing UCG in all four codes at Varsity level.

He went on to have a stellar sporting life and also a proud political career where he had the honour of serving in government.

Sean never lost his love for sport and was in Heffernan Park just a few months ago when Taoiseach Leo Varadkar visited.

He was also a very proud man just a few weeks ago when Martin Boland and Gerry O'Donnell visited his home with the trophies won by our senior squad this season. Sean always gloried in the achievements of local sportspeople!

Everyone associated with Ballina RFC wish to send our deepest condolences to Sean's wife Doris, daughter Siofra, sons John, Conall and Dara, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, and wider family.
