Our President, Mrs Deirdre Whyte, the executive and all at Ballina Rugby Football Club send our deepest condolences to the McElwee family after the passing of one of our own, Eamon McElwee.
Our former star passed away peacefully at his home in Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare, surrounded by his family after a long illness.
Eamon was a stalwart of the 1950s and '60s and his deeds in the green jersey have never been forgotten. The McElwee family have a long and proud connection with the club - his brothers Ruby and Frank also proudly wore the jersey and his grandson Cian Anderson is currently starring at Youths level.
Eamon was husband of the late Kay (Née Anderson) and he will be sadly missed by his loving family, daughter Susan, son Eamon, grandchildren Rachel and Mark, great-grandchildren Luke, Megan, Cian, Chloe, Sophia and Keela, brother Frank, sister Kathleen (in Ballina), brother Ruby (Galway), sisters in law Lillian and Aggie, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, and many, many friends.
May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.
Removal from his home on Monday to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Ballyroan, arriving for 10am Mass. Reposing at McGowan's Funeral Home, Ballina on Monday evening from 7pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 11.30am in St. Muredach’s Cathedral, followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery.
Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, to Little Hill Animal Rescue.
