BALLINA U16 boys took to the field on Saturday against a very well-drilled Ballinasloe team on a winning streak. Ballinasloe got out of the blocks faster with their first try after three minutes followed by a second shortly after.
That left the guests 10-0 clear, but Ballina rallied well and went in at half time 12-10 up. The young men in green started the second half with the opening try to go 17-12 up.
Both teams traded tries with everything all square at 22-22 heading into the final minutes. Ballinasloe were in the ascendency and were pushing hard for the winner. Ballina were defending well when up popped Shane Roach with an intercept and raced up the pitch. He was unlucky not to cross the whitewash, brought down five metres out.
However, Shane's colleagues arrived in great numbers and moved the ball well to touch down in the corner in the final minute.
That secured glory for the Moysiders on a 27-22 scoreline.
Well done to all involved.
