Tuesday was an iconic day for Ballina RFC. Two of our own, Dave Heffernan and Caelan Doris, were selected for the New Zealand summer tour where Ireland will play three Test matches against New Zealand in Auckland, Dunedin and Wellington, as well as two fixtures against the Māori All Blacks – in Hamilton ahead of the first Test, and in Wellington following the second Test.
To have two men who began their rugby journey as Minis in Heffernan Park and progressed through Youths level, heading to New Zealand for such a pivotal series of games is the stuff of dreams.
Congratulations to Dave, Caelan, their families and all who helped develop their love of the game when they first set foot on the rugby pitch.
