Community in deep sadness at untimely death

All at Ballina Rugby Football Club are deeply saddened by the recent untimely passing of Martin Mitchell.
Martin served the nation as a Detective Garda and was highly-respected by all fortunate enough to have encountered him.
Many in the club remember Martin's dynamic play on the hallowed turf of Heffernan Park when he was a pivotal member of our underage teams in the eighties.
Such was the respect in which he was held, he was selected to captain out U16 and U18 teams during his time at the club.
Sadly, his playing career was cut shot by injury, but he never lost his love for the club and was a regular figure on the sideline supporting all that was good in Ballina RFC.
Martin contributed massively to all that is good in Ballina and the surrounding areas. He was selfless and gloried in the happiness of others.
The entire community is a better place thanks to Martin Mitchell.
We express our deep and sincere sympathy to Martin's beloved wife Helena, his wonderful daughters Hollie and Jane, father Padraig, brothers Smiler and Brendan, sister Tina, mother-in-law Anne, father-in-law Josie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, his many Garda colleagues, relatives and many friends.
May his brave and selfless soul rest in peace.
